hey bees I'm Murray from humble bee and me and today we are making my lovely creamy clay cleansing balm try saying that 10 times fast if you've been wanting to make your own face wash but you don't want to dive into the wide world of surfactants or soap making cleansing balms are really really awesome and crazy crazy easy way to do that which is why I included cleansing bombs in
the skincare chapter of my book make it up because I didn't want to send you off on a wild goose chase for a bunch of other ingredients the beautiful thing about cleansing balms is that they use ingredients you probably already have if you've ever made a lotion or some body butters or something our cleansing ingredient is almost assigned wax so for this version of this recipe I have used almost fine wax nf you can
also use pull wax or a Mulsim also also known as Reda mulch depending on where you buy it and where you live you can also use bpms 50 but became associate is quite a lot more expensive than those other three emulsifying waxes so I would probably recommend sticking with one of the cheaper ones the way emulsifying wax cleanses is also the way of multiplying wax emulsified emulsifiers are made up of molecules that have
one end that loves water and one end that loves oil and so that is what brings everything together it's our it's our bridge it's our link between the oil part and the water part and so in the cleansing balm kind of world the water part isn't added directly to it like you would in lotions we're not creating an emulsion as part of sort of the final bottles product we are creating an emulsion
as we cleanse so you are using that emulsifier to emulsify with the water that you're washing your face with so you'll rub the balm into some damp skin they'll start to emulsify with the water on your face and it will also pick up all the oil on your skin because of course the life is also like and then when you go to rinse your face off because it will emulsify with the water
you're in same output it'll come away really really cleanly bringing all the SH meg from your face and your day with it and with that very basic little bit of chemistry down this is really just like making a body butter except we're going to stir a bunch of clay into it at the end and then yeah that's about it when you're using this balm you do need to take they're not to get
it wet it will absolutely sprout mold if you start working water into it and because it has an emulsifier in it that water will work its way quite nicely into the bond and stay there and start a bacterial party so make sure you are always scooping this foam out with a dry finger or perhaps like a popsicle stick or a small one of those little cosmetic sampler spatulas just be sure to keep
the balm dry if you don't think you can do that add an oil soluble broad-spectrum preservative like FINA nip to nip bacterial growth in the bud okay let's go make some cleansing balm we'll begin by measuring the ingredients for the base of our cleansing balm into a heat-resistant glass measuring cup so this here is a 250 milliliter Pyrex measuring cup so you'll need 10 grams of a complete emulsifying wax then you'll need 10 grams
of coconut oil 15 grams of castor oil 20 grams of grapeseed oil and you could use a different lightweight oil here something like safflower sunflower oil would be great as well six grams of stearic acid and six drops of vitamin E oil so to melt this through I'm going to put our measuring cup in this salt small saucepan which has about an inch or three centimetres water in the bottom of it and I'm
going to go put this over the stove top on about medium-low heat to let everything melt through and that'll take about 20 minutes about 20 minutes later and as you can see everything is melted through so it's time to start adding our clay I am going to leave this in the water bath though because I want it to stay warm as long as possible and so the hot water bath will help that
happen so we're going for six tablespoons of white kaolin clay once the mixture is smooth you can remove the measuring cup from your water bath set that aside and make sure you dry off the outside of measuring cup because we don't want to accidentally incorporate any water into the cleansing balm because then it can spread mold so now we are ready to add our essential oils so for this one we're doing a
sort of creamsicle type blend so we'll be using a combination of Clementine Peru balsam which smells very vanilla like and Cape snow bush which I find to be bright and really lovely and rather hard to pin down if you don't have Cape snow bush so don't worry about it totally optional so we're going to do ten drops of clementine five drops approve balsam and two drops of Cape snow bush if you have it and
now we're ready to put it in our 10 oh that is a 60 milli or 2 ounce cans all right well I've got a little bit extra so I guess I know how I am washing my face tonight but it's time to just let that set up which will probably take about half an hour since there is a reasonable amount of it and it's actually still quite hot because it sat in
a water bath for so much longer and then it usually would right so it's been about half an hour and this is setup it's cool to the touch and so that's really left to do is cap it and you're pretty much done so let's check the consistency of some of our leftovers here in this version of the cleansing balm I use stearic acid instead of candle Isla wax is what I used in
the original recipe on the blog and the stearic acid makes for a softer creamier final product that has I do find better rinse off but I do know that not everybody has stearic acid around so can Delilah wax is really also very lovely you can see that it is really nice and creamy and if I grab some of the water here leftover from our water bath you can sort of see it
starts to work up into a cream here you can see it starts to emulsify with the water and it gets a little bit cloudy and that's it that's the emulsifiers doing their job and yeah we know this stuff works so there you go that's pretty easy got to be one of the easiest ways to make a DIY facial cleanser so there you go you just made some creamy clay cleansing balm thank you
